Saved and moved psd all layers merged

hello,

 

ran frustrating situation. had save psd pdf in order print @ large size (or better quality) , made sure go , save file psd, on old ones, twice, make sure kept original psd file layers. moved file on seagate ext. harddrive , and opened today on laptop , layers merged. shut down computer , made sure off before removing ext. harddrive instead of "safely remove" etc. not sure if improper conduct. going make extremely difficult work, think stuck. why did happen? didn't merge layers before saving pdf. should not saving pdf print? 7.5x12.5in image need print.

 

i know happened don't again whatever did. if go home , check file there, believe merged, don't think there's can do.

photoshop pdf supports layers, saving pdf shouldn't have flattened image in way. when save format doesn't support layers, such jpeg, jpeg copy of file gets flattened (it happens in background during save process).

 

merging of layers far complex change in file result of type of file corruption moving different drive, or improper use of drive.

 

my guess somehow did flatten image before saving copy of psd. there no way recover layers once file has been saved , closed. in file in file.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
