Thread: Can't get to graphical login prompt after 11.10 upgrade

i'm pretty new linux, i'm windows sysadmin trade tech-literate.

did upgrade 11.10 11.04, due internet crapping out failed @ flashplugin install.

terminal resumed via "dkpg --configure -a", , did "apt-get update" & "apt-get dist-upgrade" of seemed work ok.

rebooted unfortunately bootloader menu, coloured screen says "ubuntu" , progress dots , either hangs dots on screen or "ubuntu" title , dots vanish (leaving coloured backrgound) , hangs there.

can still login terminal via recovery mode - how figure out why isn't getting me login screen?

even clue me started appreciated.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
