Thread: Ettercap crashes after searching for hosts

i figure security section have best opinion on matter. ettercap (gui) crashes after scan netmask hosts. i've done searches on , seems there others problem, haven't found solution. on ubuntu, @ first did time, started working more, point crashes 20% of time. however, on backtrack, have same problem, , there never works, crashes. figured might have set wrong on ubuntu, not work out of box on backtrack install odd. wrong computer, or doing wrong?

gives error when happens, doesn't tell me much:

ooops ! shouldn't happen...
segmentation fault...

crashes out completely, window disappearing , process terminating, while other times (mainly on backtrack), program halts , becomes unresponsive. other functionality in ettercap seems working.

oh, , in addition, separate topic ties in little bit, on backtrack nmap (and zenmap) says can't find interface wlan0. causes this? sorry diverge off ubuntu territory.

, solved part @ end, believe problem had left monitor mode on accident.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
