hi there.

card needs updated driver internal chipset, available ubuntu's repositories, you'll need connect router via wired network temporarily.

unplug wireless card machine, , connect machine router wired network cable.

wait few seconds, , check can browse website (e.g. www.ubuntu.com), ensure have connection internet.

install updated driver, click applications -> accessories -> terminal, , type following commands @ $ prompt, pressing enter after each 1 , supplying password if prompted:

code:
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-wireless-generic
note when entering passwords characters type not echoed screen, asterisks - normal linux command-line behaviour.

when finished on command line, type following close terminal:
code:
exit
unplug ethernet cable.

close windows , restart computer. make sure older version of driver gets unloaded memory, new version can loaded in place.

when logged in, insert wireless stick.

wait 30 seconds.

left-click network manager icon on panel @ top of screen (it near left-side of clock) , should see list of available network names connect to.

click 1 corresponding access point , you'll prompted keys required connect network.

if can't see access points, right-click network manager icon , make sure option enable wireless both present , ticked.

message appear briefly in top-right hand corner of screen when connection established.

try browsing different website check have working route out onto internet, , should set.

in future, should able plug in device, , if doesn't connect access point automatically left-click network manager icon , pick access point list.

hope helps,

nick
