Thread: Turning Num Lock Automatically On At System Startup

i using ubuntu 11.04 (32-bit) , use gnome desktop environment of choice. computer desktop.

num lock key automatically turned on @ system startup. (i.e. before login screen!)

followed instructions on link: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/numlock

num lock turns on after login screen using system settings > keyboard layout > options > miscellaneous compatibility options method. unfortunately, still unable turn num lock on before login screen although have numlockx installed , inserted suggested code in /etc/rc.local.

being password includes mix of letters , numbers, prefer being able use keypad on right side of keyboard when inserting numbers.

suggestions?

ps: have num lock option turned on in bios!

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
