Thread: Ubuntu 11.10 and (U)EFI Issues

i got new motherboard computer. i've been trying uefi boot because wan't off of bios boot before have stuff on hard drive, , it's becoming more mainstream.

so, plugged in liveusb, booted off uefi, , followed few guides converting mbr hard drive gpt. did successfully. install grub-efi, , worked... sort of... boot efi file, , display menu, couln't past purplish screen. so, checked grub.cfg , found still used msdos instead of gpt. switched that, added few efi needed things, , still wouldn't boot. checked fstab, , had few errors. boot.

while upgrading everything, decided update bios. went fine, , restored settings. however, option boot esp gone. so, tried reinstalling grub-efi, , didn't work. tried several other things related grub, , didn't work either. found guide efibootmgr, , got boot. however, ubuntu not booting. checked fstab , grub.cfg, no errors found. tried go recovery or text boot, both couldn't past grub. memcheck didn't work.

so, tried reinstalling grub since thought grub issue. didn't work. tried use efibootmgr, didn't work still. tried ubuntu upgrade 11.10 11.10. after that, booted grub, ubuntu wouldn't boot. tried install grub again, i'm stuck @ grub rescue prompt saying "error: file not found."

so, there can fix this? or should revert mbr? don't want go back, because worked before, , i'm sure still work.

post this, test version of boot script parses efi partitions , has other improvements.

v60 has improved formating , requires code tags make legible. new version zip file have extract .sh run.
install these before running script:
sudo apt-get install gawk
sudo apt-get install xz-utils
