just theoretical question here:

if new laptop have windows 7 preinstalled, , format/install ubuntu on it, can reinstall windows 7 onto in future using serial key on sticker on bottom of laptop?

preinstalls don't come discs, have find windows 7 retail disc, key laptop came let install win 7 again?

hope thats not confusing! lol

your new laptop have way of restoring operating system, whether via physical disks, hidden restore partitions, or creating cd/dvds.

once determine how carry out operating system factory restore, can decide how install ubuntu.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
