Anchor Object without Modifying Text

is there way place objects , attach location particular numbered paragraph, without using anchored objects, i.e., possible ot make anchored object without inserting anchor text?

 

long:

i assembling document text placed microsoft word document , figures placed variety of sources (.pdf exports of tex equations, .ai figures, etc.).

 

i have explored anchored objects extent, , provide functionality need, 1 exception.

 

i able insert figures indesign project , able update text in microsoft word without losing insertion points. now, when update linked word file, anchors removed text.

 

one approach considered complete majority of text in word, place text indesign, break link, add anchors, , complete revisions in indesign. unfortunately, approach not work, using reference manager in text, , reordering/adding/removing references become exceedingly tedious in document dozens of references , 100 citations references.

short: no.  longer:  perhaps should put objects on page, or pasteboard, now, , anchoring when editing done.
