Lightroom appears to on occasions corrupt my files

the original file can fine though lr4 has trouble gathering file information , result happens. screen shot 2013-05-07 @ 3.20.06 pm.png

this hardware problem, lightroom has trouble reading hard disk photo located.

 

lightroom never writes image portion of files, reads them , displays reads.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
