Thread: bizzare performance issue (cpu usage drops - system freezes)

my config:
11.10 on acer 5750z (2core b950, builtin graphics), 64bit, xfce on regular ubuntu. worked out of box but.

every minute or have strange cpu usage drops. it's visible when watching video. every , (with granularity of 30 sec - 1 min) player freezes 4 seconds (audio goes on). during time cpu graph shows drops 30% 10% on both cores explains why player can't decode video. i've got no explanation on can cause "energy savings". i've tried playing different governors (my initial hypothesis) no luck.

i'm lost , irritating (even typing lengthy affected , waiting 4 seconds text appear on screen nineties). , happens not in os notebook shipped with, it's apparently problem ubuntu , i'd love solve it.

so, ideas look?

instead of mindless bumping i'll adding details initial post.

freeze mean x window system. mouse moves, can switch windows , somewhere else (most of time). feeling it's current window only.

update
right i'm installing maven2 monstrous install , imo monstrous tool (i lack knowledge on subject) apart sentiments system turned barely responsive. strangely responds , mplayer still plays music(chosen lightweight , robust player far given circumstances), can switch windows , pretend white, often, clicking somewhere turns them gray. chromium instance offered me killing ubuntuforums page loading long.

strangest of them cpu usage barely jumps on 50% , i'm talking dual-core system (yes, still cheap new notebook intel b950 processor)

enormous two-core system , doesn't fit system monitor. somebody's lying here...

whom should trust? , more importantly should look?
