Thread: Cannot disassemble raid 1

i'm @ end of rope.

installed server 11.10 on soft raid 1, numerous problems booting first in degraded mode, not @ all. try reinstall, whole array gone. booting live cd, both drives present, showing intended linux raid

fdisk delete partitions , make new dos partition table, go reinstall server, still see's raid on sata devices.
try again live cd, time dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdx bs=446 count=1 over-write mbr both disks.
re-install again, server still see's raid device. live cd, dd overwrite more mbr. fdisk -l shows no valid partition table.
try re-install server again, still see's raid device. select don't activate, partitioner see's drives individually. time, install 1 drive, mounting other /backup. install grub drive active partition. no boot first time. second time, says cannot mount md4, drops intramfs shell.
how can undo raidness?
why/how fresh installs of server after reformatting drive , repartitioning them several times still see raid. switch? please help!

from initramfs, can cat /proc/mdstat see raid md4, set inactive. think remember seeing commands remove raid.
