Thread: installing ubuntu on a laptop with windows 7

i want use windows 7 machine , have ubuntu on it, there way dual boot both of them , pick 1 want run?

first, backup stuff external drive , defrag windows. boot directly ubuntu cd , select "try ubuntu" make sure of hardware compatible.

can start installation , choose "install ubuntu along side of windows". see "slider" use choose how hard drive space want ubuntu use. personally, give @ least 40gb if have room. rest pretty self-explanatory. come questions may have.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
