Comic inking in Illustrator; brush changing with fid/smooth options off + DPI detail question

i've used illustrator time using paths, have decided start inking artwork vectors sharpness , scalability.

 

one of issues i've hit illustrator doesn't seem responsive using wacom 22hd when comes line. firstly, think i've got resolution bit out of whack. above 2 point blobby , it's hard fine details. dpi, artwork not being big enough? i've never seemed able solve it.

 

of course, title indicates, i've got issue illustrator correcting line time. means can't smooth line using own stroke - it'll adjust add bend. i've no idea how stop this. i've looked @ issues align pixel, , have set fid/smooth settings lowest (fidelity's 0.5 though). ideas?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
