Thread: Duelling Desktops -- (Lubuntu-Desktop on Kubuntu 11.10)

hi all, installed lubuntu-desktop on kubuntu 11.10 system because under impression easy switch between environments login screen.

is, there seem interference between two. 1 thing, kde system settings (monitor, desktop settings, mouse controls) etc there in lubuntu (but overridden lxde controls?). synaptic crashes when try open in lubuntu. kde's muon listed in system tools menu, i'm hesitant use since don't know how interacts lxde.

bottom line, there way these 2 play nicely on same system, or have make choice , uninstall 1 or other?

if want both lxde , kde, remove lubuntu-desktop , install regular (non-lubuntu) lxde desktop environment. installing lubuntu-desktop on kubuntu not recommended because lubuntu-desktop , kubuntu-desktop can conflict each other , cause problems.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
