Thread: Hanging on boot
i installed 11.10 on hp pavilion g4 who's specs following:
amd dual-core a4-3300m
amd radeon hd 6480g
4gb ddr3 sdram (1 dimm)
hd brightview led-backlit display
srs premium sound altec lansing speakers
(if need more i'll more happy info)
had problems booting live usb ubuntu installed. had black screen issue involving radeon cards that's been going around, managed boot , install using commands(i think correct word) "xforcevesa radeon.modeset=0 nomodeset noquiet nosplash".
after installed rebooted, , expected, got black screen issue again when selected ubuntu grub. so, rebooted again applying same boot options above , got desktop. after updating packages went @ drivers since supposedly cause of original black screen issue. there 2 proprietary graphic drivers listed, appeared same item listed twice in menu installed 1 , rebooted.
upon rebooting applied boot options third time, except freeze in command prompt style interface runs behind splash images (bash term?). last message displayed is, "stopping userspace boot splash [ok]". i'm novice linux , beyond hours of searching solution i've tried various combinations of boot options. removing "quiet" , "splash" , adding "nomodeset" hangs, last message displayed is, "starting gnome display manager [ok]".
i've messed around gdm , lightdm, i'm not quite sure read posts saying part of issue. guess kinds of logs might useful guys, can terminal ctrl + alt + f1 if give me commands i'll need.
thanks!
