Thread: Virtualbox performance much better than Vmware with same specs

found interesting: got vmware , virtualbox guest windows xp, both same ram, both expandable hdds, run same host ssd quad core, vmware got 2 cpus , virtualbox 1 cpu assigned. guest os config same (fresh installs) except virtualbox has comodo firewall , therefore (theoretically) speed disadvantage.

vmware:

boot 45 sec, shutdown 19 sec

virtualbox:

boot 27 sec, shutdown 11 sec

difference: on 50%!

.........
assigning multiple cpus vm can slow vm down because host has priority cpu resources , if both virtual cpu's not available vm waits both available.

statistically there far more chance of single cpu being available if host busy vm 1 cpu allocated has more opportunity use resource if had wait 2 cpus become available.

in past have had vmware vms run lot better using single cpu more one.
