Large cs3 document won't open in cs6

good morning,

 

i have 1.3gb catalogue created in indesign cs3. have got cs6 , have tried open file keeps freezing on "converting data".

 

on odd occasion crashes pc instantly, on others seems freeze or making small progress hours before crashing pc.

 

the current scenario has document being opened 8hrs , 30% along progress bar.

 

is there anyway can improve performance of conversion?

 

i working on windows pc vista 64bit (which works other documents fine), running 6gb ram.

 

look forward advice.

why 1.3gb? did embed images file?

 

i'd open file in indesign cs3 , unembed images , create folder linked - you'll prompted dialog box.

 

then i'd export cs3 document .inx file using file>export , choose .inx

 

open .inx file in indesign cs6 , if prompted relink images folder created.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
