Thread: cant boot after power outage

i have dual boot setup windows xp , ubuntu 11.10. morning had power outage , ubuntu not boot now. windows boots ok , grub menu seems working. when attempt boot ubuntu "(initramfs) ata_id[272]: hdio_get_identity failed '/dev/sdb': invalid argument". let sit few minutes , nothing happens. new ubuntu appreciate detailed help, thanks.

without more information, guess disk got damaged during power outage. try booting live cd see if can read linux partition. if can read partition, may away simple "repair" of os. if not, hard drive has become damaged , should replace it.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
