Thread: dd command

hi

trying create image file load on cf card using dd command. reason firstly created blank image file , creating no image file.

trying following: downloaded embcop file , 3 plugins add program. placed files of plugins under tools of main file, embcop, create 1 image file (now firstly not know if correct place put plugins). have saved file on desktop, new folder place in. typed in following:

sudo dd if=/home/anesh/desktop/nacbox of=/home/anesh/desktop/nacbox.gz

reads response get:
0+0 records in
0+0 records out
0 bytes (0 b) copied, 0.000435447 s, 0.0 kb/s

meaning not detecting files , not writing records

after created image file must load onto cf card.

can 1 please assist me advise how thing working.

'if' means input file........and haven't designated file. you've pointed @ directory.

don't think can use wildcards dd either.

still bit lost on you're trying do. trying create gzip file?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
