Thread: Intel Core 2 Duo, high processor usage with 11.10

i have noticed dell inspiron 6400 intel core 2 duo 2ghz has been having troubling cpu loads @ times. not think has ever happened prior ubuntu 11.10 (or maybe 11.04), @ least not bad. have 2 gb of ram.

applications on wine drive cpu 100% (worked flawlessly prior ubuntus), did 1 hd video playing on totem. started lagging badly. apart these, seems normal but...

standard definition video playback takes 10-25%
firefox can take 30% or 40%, when streaming videos , such
normal?

found information power regression bugs in newer kernels , processor seems on list. talking overheating , battery life mostly. problems related?
have tried default unity, unity 2d , gnome 3 wine app , give same result. must kernel, right?

should worried about? concerned damaging hardware in way. not mind downgrading ubuntu 10.04 or waiting bit till 12.04 if fix this.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
