Thread: NVidia GeForce 430 Driver Problems

hi folks,

i've spent amount of time browsing these forums of late, haven't found similar symptoms or solution.

built computer yesterday on cheap , used nvidia geforce 430 graphics card. ubuntu installed fine , fell onto unity 2d. went update drivers, , had 2 options. standard nvidia drivers or updated nvidia drivers, both of "certified ubuntu/canonical." when reboot after updating drivers, computer freezes on blown image of ubuntu screen 4/5 red dots (image attached) , not boot unity.

have 2 questions:

1. how can enter safe mode/recovery mode screen , use terminal. know commands remove drivers, can't access terminal.

2. can problem fixed? if can't use graphics card prefer exchange 1 works. however, graphics card certified work ubuntu, suspect there fix.

in advance

p.s. i'm running 64 bit ubuntu 11.10 oneiric ocelot
attached images attached images

when install ubuntu put checkmark next install 3rd party drivers , automatically install correct drivers card. if want install latest nvidia drivers after install use 285.05.09 drivers website , not newest 290.--- drivers. card works great in ubuntu may have other problems if doesn't work.
