Thread: Ubuntu server 10.04 processes question

hello.

have dedicated dell poweredge r200 ubuntu server 10.04. keep on server php+mysql application developed our company. problem is, when many clients connect server @ same time, or when client calls service uses lot of resources (memory or cpu) server freezes, , not able log ssh anymore kill process. server responds pings little while after few minutes fails completely, , need call data center , request hard reset.

if @ syslog, says process (apache or mysql) has eaten available resources (memory usage 100%, cpu same, swap space same.), , after crashes server.

there possibility limit how process can use system resources, , if exeeds limit, automatically kill or restart service? know resource limits can set configuration file of services (for example if php script takes more 60 seconds execute can terminated automatically), there way set general limit process protect server crashing. lets if application uses 100% cpu more 5 seconds kill it?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
