Thread: Wireless Access without wireless card

first, i'm not affiliated in way trendnet, product i'll discussing.

took old pc , put in our den, idea use ubuntu , google chrome stream radio (see chrome extensions 'radio live' 1 works well). however, location put in wasn't wired, , none of wireless cards had worked ubuntu.

didn't want buy wireless card, instead wanted use pc's built-in lan connection. way, avoid driver issues together! give me different device other projects in need of hard-wired lan connections, useful device have around beyond streaming radio implementation.

searching around, found 'wireless adapter' advertised being used gaming systems. thought might work well, couldn't see difference between 1 device's tcp lan connection , another's, bought trendnet tew-647 ga wireless adapter device.

plugged device electrical supply, plugged in lan wire pc's lan socket , tew-647 ga adapter, , , running!

so, if having wireless lan connection problems (or driver issues), or need provide wired lan connection in wireless environment, might solution you.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
