Thread: Wireless connection not working

greetings!

i've installed ubuntu 10.04 on friend's acer aspire 3500. yes know it's got whiskers ubuntu has given laptop new lease of life , few more months, maybe year or two, out of it.

suspect there may issue wireless card in laptop - did work while laptop won't connect wireless network. presently, "enable wireless" option greyed out - wired works fine. there testing or modification settings can confirm problem wireless card?

thanks!

google laptop model , see default wifi driver laptop uses. make , model. go terminal , type

code:
lspci
press enter , paste output here, start. should show driver ubuntu using (if wifi being detected).

also, if it's fresh install, might recommend installing 11.04 using live cd instead of 10.04. plug in lan cable during live cd installation, let download updates, etc. should tell hardware restricted drivers available. easy solution. i'm not sure how old laptop is.
