FEATURE REQUEST: After Effects style Placeholders and Proxies

if feel needs in efficient proxy workflow, welcome club , don't hesitate submit feature request.

it nice if prpro offered ae style placeholders , proxies workflow. there cases, extremely useful, e.g.:

1. huge modern formats , resource hungry codecs. not machines can handle 2k or 4k footages, can't real time playback avchd. not mention cinemadng importer discontinued partly because of inability real time playback in prpro. issue can resolved via rendering previews, that's not efficient workflow.

 

2. in multicam editing issues mentioned above increase dramatically. rendering preview every camera angle impossible. although prpro offers offline clips workflow, editor can't see if clip linked source footage or proxy, , switching between sources , proxies involves several steps every time 1 needs switch: selecting assets, making them offline, right-clicking again link other media, locating files on disk; while in after effects it's 1 click once proxy set.

 

3. adobe dynamic link. prpro communicates ae projects via single instance of headless ae, creates bottleneck , entails need render di complex comps. although ae allows set dis proxies and, hence, enjoy best of both worlds, instantly switching between di , dynamically linked comp , no needs replace in prpro timeline, hundreds of dynamically linked comps prpro timeline becomes unresponsive , takes forever render (for rig test 30 min sequence built out of 935 dynamically linked comps, source footages in own comps, hence, equivalent rendered dis set proxies, takes around 27 hours render, while 30 min sequence built out of same 935 source footages renders in real time). meanwhile, prpro doesn't allow link offline dynamically linked comps rendered dis.
