Swatches do not transfer to a new document

i created document in aics6. duplicated document in aics6 resulting in 2 identical documents, "a" , "b." created 6 color swatches in document "a" , named them. saved file , drew 6 little squares , filled them each of 6 swatches. saved file. copied little squares document "a" , pasted them document "b," clone. names of swatches did not transfer document "b" nor did appear in swatch palette under name.

 

they nothing more cmyk combinations in document "b." absurd, not unexpected such horrible piece of software ai. there preference need invoke? i'm sure i'm doing wrong , simple. don't have time figure out. in advance on (by way, has worked in previous versions of ai.)

mac os 10.8.3

in document a, click on swatches 1 @ time , check global checkbox. they'll transfer then.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
