Thread: HP laptop touchpad fails

i installed ubuntu 11.0.4 first time on hp pavilion dv6000. version 11.0.10. touchpad not work either version.

there no touchpad issues when laptop ran windows vista. touchpad worked during installation, failed moment login screen appeared. failed when rebooted install disc.

cannot move cursor @ , cannot enter text or select text field keyboard.

wiped drive , installed on single partition. hard drive healthy.

followed steps described atdebugging touchpad detection. found documentation confusing , internally contradictory, did establish problem definitely not bug in kernel , probably not bug in x server. however, command

code:
xinput --list
gives result unable connect x server

using usb mouse able log in , use os normally. installation crippled without touchpad.

made mistake of posting query thread flagged [solved], died. feeling vexed , ready give on ubuntu.

hi,

sorry hear frustration. have heard that, on installations, touchpad disabled on startup.

check this, please press alt+f2 , type:

code:
dconf-editor
in command field.

when dconf-editor open, navigate to: org -> gnome -> settings-daemon -> peripherals -> touchpad

if box label touchpad-enabled unchecked, check it. if problem, should work without having reboot.
