have make mass ubuntu deployment @ work, , words clonezilla, fai, puppet, cfengine, pxe, oem dancing around head

hardware clients desktops, hp , ibm.

computers have authenticate windows ad via likewise open.

if clone computer user configurations, once deploy clone in client , log in new user, configs gone, of them user specific (for example, several thunderbird add-ons configure work ms exchange). , also, because of likewise open authentication, have make sure client gets new hostname, authenticates ad, etc.

question is: of above tools better need, , (or combination of) can make whole process unattended possible?

i run 10 ubuntu machines @ local library. use separate partition home , 1 /. copy home same each machine. save full state of markings synaptic , use restore applications (read markings after install). use same user name , password each. tried copying etc directory each trickier have make sure host file changed reflect each computer name. can use same name , password after install change them wish. never quite easy think done if more knowledgeable.also synaptic won't reinstall packages, ubuntu tweak, google earth, , few others have manually. hope replies has more streamlined way multiple deployments not advanced people.
