Thread: Startup Manager not saving

hello; running ubuntu 11.10 on dell inspiron n4110. i'm dualbooting ubuntu , windows 7, , trying use startup manager make windows default os (but give bootloader 5 second wait me switch ubuntu when want to. [oh hey rhymed]) 5 second wait period has changed, ubuntu till default os, though have chosen windows. startup manager says windows default when power on ubuntu remains default. can me fix this?

i use terminal.

type in "sudo gedit /etc/default/grub" (now if use different text editor gedit use instead)

text document open up.

go line grub_default=

'0' represents first displayed os, '1' second, , on. go ahead , make change , save.

go terminal , update grub menu, "sudo update-grub" upon next restart new default os should set.

best regards!
