Thread: tutorials on initramfs, building initrd.img
i'm feeling proud of myself having built , installed kernel first time, today. main stumbling block, turned out, initramfs, or more precisely, newly-created initrd.img-xxx file.
while have working kernel (i386, asus desktop) i'm still hazy on how create new initrd.img file. default version of file, ubuntu distribution (11.10) around 12 mb in size. first initrd.img created was 2.6 mb , failed boot (i got dumped busybox.) next initrd.img created 113 mb. 1 allows boot, though there's garbage on screen during boot process. have hunch new initrd.img file contains every single module got built 'make modules_install'. command line used was
update-initramfs -c -k 3.0.9
-- i'm looking hints , tips on creating initrd.img file on current ubuntu distribution, user experience , not i've found via google. thanks!
