Thread: Unable to update old computer

hey everybody, got computer of mine family , having problems it. running 9.04 , update manager says last updated 897 days ago. when click "check" fails find anything. clicking "upgrade" button go 9.10 tells me i'm upgrading no longer supported version, fails fetch, saying there may network problem. don't think that's case since able use firefox , install folding@home command line.

tried "sudo apt-get update" , "sudo apt-get upgrade" , didn't work. put in cd has 10.04.1 on didn't boot , didn't show on desktop. music cds not play, makes me think there connection problem somewhere them though opened box , made sure before turning on.

don't see option boot usb in bios.

have ideas haven't tried thing update? it's old gateway computer p3 (866mhz) if helps. going use folding@home , media storage, want have date.
