Why does anchoring break word wrap?

i have 200+ page typical book--one big column per page (two facing pages), , 30 images/illustrations scattered throughout book (at 1 image per page). of images are, say, half column wide, , want text flow around them. place image in reasonable spot , select word wrap | wrap around bounding box. looks great far. anchor it--and first line of text flows under image frame. release anchor , word wraps correctly. when it's anchored i've tried both wrap around bounding box , wrap around object, , various other word wrap options--the first line of text still wraps under the image frame. once release anchor. i'm newbie--what missing?

it seems not-work-as-expected if place anchor in text being word wrapped--that is, anywhere horizontal image. if place anchor in text above the image, isn't being wrapped, appears work expected. sadly, suggest if want place image next paragraph references it, , place anchor inside paragraph references image, word wrapping won't work.
