Wrapping a collection of images around a rotating sphere?

is there way take dozen or images , wrap them around rotating sphere in after effects? need break sphere apart (by image) , bring again. thought saw tutorial on how somewhere, can't seem find it.

cc sphere can textured sphere, otherwise you'll have arrange layers in 3d space mimic sphere. use of expressions in here set (on "blob center" helper layers):
