Cannot locate images

i new @ lighroom 4 did family session , had family decide on 54 images liked edit , placed them collection , editted them created folder in pictures portion of computer place editted version , lightroom stating image cannot found , tried relocating them direct them live in computer file states there other pictures similar view , hit open nothing happens extremly worried have lost these images dont have backup exist...please me!

first of all, don't panic. photos wherever put them on hard disk. should able find these photos using operating system.

 

you should able fix these problems in lightroom, moving photos (using operating system), or via http://www.computer-darkroom.com/lr2_find_folder/find-folder.htm

 

now take step backwards, seem have made number of beginner lightroom mistakes, of avoidable in future.

 

  1. once made collection these photos, have organized photos, , there no reason move them specific folder
  2. if move or rename photos outside of lightroom, lightroom no longer knows photos , gives missing indicator (the ? icon) lightroom not contain photos, contains pointer photo's location, , that's why moving photos outside of lightroom causes problems. best advice develop workflow don't move photos here there. , if must move photos here there, in lightroom.
  3. lightroom not save edited versions of photos. different other software may have used in past. why not find save command in lightroom. lightroom saves, in database, changes made (for example, exposure +0.24, contrast +20, highlights –25) , re-draw photo according these changes whenever open lightroom. non-adobe programs cannot interpret these changes , can show unedited photos.
  4. if need edited versions of photos non-lightroom purpose, must export photos.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
