How to record audio via a USB microphone?

i trying capture video (via built in web cam) , audio of myself playing musicial intrument , singing @ same time. operating on macbook pro , have condensor microphone hooked computer via usb interface. have microphone initiated under computer settings don't know how make sure program knows want use microphone usb interface , records audio source , not built in microphone computer. how set microphone within adobe premier elements 11 recognized?

 

also, if recording via 1 microphone through 1 channel, how hear in both of headphones , not one.

unfortunately, pre works usb mics, not many.

 

have tried mic, attaches computer via 1/8" connection, mobo, or sound card?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
