Pixel Aspect Ratio Fun: 3 different values PRE gives me, none seem right
i have jvc everio files widescreen (16:9) , stored 720x576
media info not show par far can see, 16:9 1024:576
as have 720 instead of 1024, par think 1024/720 = 1.422222
i started project , selected seems right thing pal -> hd camcorder -> widescreen.
(i not sure if setting meant importing, or want end being....)
so says here par 1.4587 seems close came with, select this.
on importing first clip however, notice have smaller 16:9 screen , have black bars in timeline:
so interpret footage, , says par file 1.0940
that wrong, check "conform to" , have options, select dv pal widescreen 1.4587
then have black bars above , below, have 4:3 widescreen presentation...
if interpret footage , confirm before place in timeline, seems ok...
however off, , when play in vlc original clip narrower, enough meets expected 1.422222 instead of 1.4587...
measuring vlc screen, in fact 16:9
so in total have 3 values.
1.422222 vlc , calculated
1.4587 asked pre use
1.0940 pre thinks came file
1. why differences?
2. opening settings intended match source or destination?
3. need avoid having use interpret footage on every clip import?
many thanks

dave,
the story of mod widescreen , premiere elements (several other non adobe programs well) old story worldwide.
from pal perspective.....
sd 720 x 576 4:3
sd\widescreen 720 x 576 16:9 flag stretches video display after encoding.
in case of jvc's mod widescreen, 16:9 flag lost in transfer or video editor not recognize (depends talking to).
typically .mod widescreen 16:9 present 4:3. problem may video editor may not import unless change .mod file extension .mpg.
all being said, many (even in pal areas) have found success editing .mod widescreen (mpeg2.mod)
a. jvc .mod widescreen imported premiere elements project set (in case) pal dv widescreen.
and
b. if .mod widescreen present 4:3 in edit mode monitor (as expected based on history), go interpret footage/pixel aspect ratio , dot conform to: , select (in case)
d1/dv pal widescreen 16:9 (1.4587). there no other valid choice in regard.
the edit mode monitor space established project preset setting of pal dv widescreen.. so, space representative of pal dv widescreen. if there bit of space not filled interpret footage/pixel aspect ratio reset, scale video make fill. video like?
if not satisfactory results should based on results of others, convert .mod widescreen dv avi widescreen , try using source media. there no fix matter, short of buying new camera not record .mod widescreen, take away problem not have address each import.
please let know if questions have been targeted.
thanks.
