Reader Successful Install is not successful

yesterday, had reader x on pc , worked fine.  when tried upgrade reader xi, downloaded computer, , @ end told installation successful, reader xi did not show anywhere.  happened 3 times.  deleted reader x , tried download reader xi again. 

 

i downloaded adobe reader internet, saved it, , ran exe file. @ end told installation successful.  however, reader not on computer.  there no reader icon on desktop.  when try open pdf document, reader not listed option opening document.

 

adobe reader not in downloads folder, though saved (when downloaded it) , ran exe file.

 

i have compaq desktop pc running windows xp.

 

how install reader on pc?

download acrobat/reader cleaner http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html

 

then try re-installing.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
