Thread: Can I Roll Back/Re-Install 11.10 Without Losing Data?

hey everyone,

possible either roll 11.10 10.04 without losing data, or if not, reinstall 11.10 without losing data?

dad first started using ubuntu @ 10.10 release, , seemed satisfied it. upgraded 11.04, apparently without issue, after 11.10 came out began having bunch of problems. these issues include (but not limited to) icon pictures not displaying (or displaying default white page), volume , power-off controls not appearing on top bar (which constant), banshee player associations not working online radio , banshee being associated recycle bin icon, amongst other things. sorted out few of these, bottom line it's inconvenient , annoying.

hoping wait until 12.04, these problems have gotten out of hand. original idea roll-back 11.10 10.04, read not possible without total re-format. i'd know if it's possible reinstall 11.10 without losing data.

, before tell me it's idea re-format every often, don't. father psychologist , has ton of important files can't lose. while can them up, has e-mails, bookmarks, , other things don't carried over, not mention other files inevitably left behind.

if there no way of these things, there @ least option perform installation repair or something? find both hard believe , incredibly short-sighted ubuntu release programs cannot fixed without losing data.

data cannot lost should backed up. amen.

anyhow, if create new user, new user have same problems? i'm asking because upgraded programs not work old config files properly. conf files stored in users home directory.
