Thread: Install windows from Lubuntu

hi.
im totally new linux. hdd messed had install linux able format hdd. , far. think im gonna stick when dont work. when work, need windows. wonder how partition/prepare hdd right in lubuntu?


also basic questions:

• whats best way learn linux? install ubuntu instead , download free manual , start there (if so, how can run ubuntu side side lubuntu?)?
  
• how come there arent viruses linux? dont need firewall either? how malwares internet/cookies etc?

you'll need make large free space on drive. can booting livecd or usb (the 1 installed from), launching partition editor (gparted), right click on swap , "swapoff", shrink ubuntu partition leaves large enough free space windows , format ntfs. boot windows install disk, install ntfs partition.

you'll need restore grub bootloader, because windows rude , nukes it.

lubuntu ubuntu, it's got different desktop environment. using lubuntu teach linux using regular ubuntu will.

linux used on servers, viruses aren't main threat. lot of effort has been put linux security. additionally, distros use rapid , comprehensive system patching vulnerabilities. adds linux being small, hard hit target desktop malware.

dont need firewall either?

you have firewall built-in, it's not turned on because default setting on ubuntu has no ports open, there's nothing firewall protect. if install servers want enable firewall , set up.

if you're behind router acting firewall.

how malwares internet/cookies etc?

you're still 100% vulnerable range of attackes, such social engineering , phishing. you'll need vigilant of on windows or os x.
