Thread: Several issues running Ubuntu 11.10 on SIS 672 based laptop

i installed ubuntu 11.10 (x64 version) alongside windows vista on old laptop , faced several problems:

1: laptop doesn't shut down property -> screen flashes , flickers alot during shut down procedure, until display turns off power led stays on , can ear computer working, have press power button secs force computer shut down.

strangely restart works, screen flashing show still happens after while laptop restarts.

2: mouse cursor disappears instantly if i'm not moving or blinks if moving slowly, bug doesn't occurs on desktop backgroud itself, on top of programs firefox or on top of nautilus , system settings.

3: on windows max supported resolution 1280x800, while on ubunto resolution capped @ 1024x768.

tried instructions on thread:

code:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1370258
but had problem on step 3

4: no support 3d version of unity, hardware should capable of supporting, if proper driver available, since supports aero on vista.
no big deal.

additional hardware information:

model: insys m746s

cpu: intel pentium t3200, 2x2ghz, 1mb, 667mhz

north bridge: sis 672(fx)
south bridge sis 968

igp: mirage 3 graphics

sound card: realtek alc662

ram: 4gb ddr2 667mhz cl5

hdd: hitachi 320gb

if me of these issues, shutdown problem, grateful.

i found out shut down works if power cable isn't connected laptop, improvement makes bug more stupid.
