Thread: Ubuntu 11.10 WiFi Issue



hello,
received lenovo b575 christmas
decided install ubuntu 11.10 alongside windows 7
running (i think)
problem internet connection
when running on windows 7, internet works fine.
when using ubuntu, cannot turn on wifi option
when do, switches off
reading of forums here, understand wireless cards or adapters (mine being "ralink rt3090 wifi adapter")are not compatible linux.
cannot wireless connection.
first time using linux operating system.
never played command prompt windows.
if can please me using baby steps, appreciate it.

edit: try sadaruwan12's solution first (in post below me). ctrl+alt+t open terminal, ctrl+alt+c copy terminal, ctrl+alt+v paste terminal.






huh, that's funny. lot of threads 3090 has been supported since 10.10 (over year ago @ point).

let's start seeing if computer can see wireless card. open terminal ctrl+alt+t , paste following commands. can copy terminal ctrl+shift+c , paste things terminal ctrl+shift+v.

lspci -nn

lsmod | grep -e rt2 -e rt3
the vertical bar (pipe) shift + \, backslash right above enter key.

put 2 commands terminal , post results here. if second command doesn't return anything, post results of "lsmod" , note first command didn't return anything.
