Thread: Ubuntu & Kubuntu problems

hello!

last year around time installed ubuntu, challenge got it, ran fine. new update came 3 months after , ubuntu crashed, error messages every time tried boot it. gave , have been using laptop since. ready try again (and did try) nothing working.

error message had initramf , not being able find init.

downloaded new ubuntu disk put in , gray ubuntu screen show , disappear error of not being able find kernal.

friend recommended kubuntu. tried too, same thing. turned off acpi* (sp?) , kubuntu loaded, , installed it. after restarted , kicked cd out, again has error. lets me select between linux generic or linux generic (recovery mode) or memory tests. way i've passed memory tests when checked disc defects, said kernal not found. cd image file? steps need taken now?

let me know if need more info, help!

if works acpi off boot acpi =off.
here info on debugging acpi: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/debuggingacpi
eis link on boot options , in end of page link making changes permanent: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/bootoptions

though if gave little bit more information on system (see how here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1422475) , perhaps run bootinfoscript: http://bootinfoscript.sourceforge.net/

people can see if set should be.
