Thread: Undetected Parallel Port HP 1200 series Printer In Ubuntu 11.04

hi having problems installing hp 1200 series printer in ubuntu 11.04 apparently hplip installer printer has option parallel printing disabled,i have tried install using start-system-admin-printing using different drivers no avail. asks url when click on other don't know put there. issue appreciated.thanks oldstumpy

what type of parallel port adapter have - internal built-in on motherboard, separate parallel port card, usb parallel adapter, or what?

if it's separate parallel port card, if 1 of cheaper ones on market multi-function chip on card, , uses driver access parallel port. far have not seen drivers these type of adapters.

if it's usb parallel port card, need model, etc.:

- adapter plugged usb port, open terminal window:

prior version 11.04: applications/accessories/terminal

11.04 , unity: click on top button (dash home) of unity menu, type ter in search string , click on terminal

- in terminal window type:

lsusb <press enter>

copy , paste output reply here.

i'm thinking need of cups packages installed, need see ones.

in mean time, open terminal window , type:

sudo modprobe lp <press enter>

go user administration, click groups, , sure userid in lp group.

wait few minutes , try printing again. post happens.
