Tool option settings don't clear with new file; Layer styles previously used automatically applied
i having darndest time figuring out i'm not understanding this, "bug". (i call bug because seems one, imo.)
specs:
mac os x 10.75
creative suite 5, photoshop 5.1
"issues":
- if adjust paragraph settings, indents, in 1 file, options not return default when start new file. thus, find myself wondering why have such large gaps between lines of copy or left, etc. when start new text layer. (this happens not in new files, in new layers - latter more understandable in it's same file.) when lightbuld goes on me: "check type settings." and, lo-and-behold, there things are: space before or after paragraph; right or left indents. settings used cleared when new file - or new layer - opened. excruciatingly annoying.
- if apply layer style (e.g., drop shadow) shape layer, , create shape layer, latter 1 automatically gets same style settings applied. is, new layer has same layer styles applied default. meaning, have delete not intend.
in case, used choose want own new files , layers like, not have used settings automatically applied. that's assuming lot user... , very frustrating.
is bug? in either case, how keep occurring? drives me nuts.

it's meant behave way. text panel has remembered last active settings. layer styles can reset on toolbar options while creating stuff, if don't want use last active. indeed change ever since cs5.
