Is there function or feature that auto corrects different formats for a date field

i curious if there function auto corrects different formats of dates written in field setting appear?

ex. setting set mm/dd/yyyy if user put may 6, 2013 or 5/06/13 auto corrected 05/06/2013.  there function or java script can auto detect , correct these formats?

not really, , don't see how 1 possible. let's user

enters "05/06/12". june 5th 2012? may 6th 2012? december 6th 2005?

december 5th 2006? etc.

 

since can't guess user has in mind, it's best force them to

use specific format.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
