tried forum (precise) answer, perhaps 1 more specific.

bought laptop ati/amd 6970 card. when rebooted oo or pp gamma extremely light. if start catalyst control center , cancel it, reverts custom settings. settings shown saved properly, not recognized on reboot. 1 suggestion go monitor 'displays' , click 'apply', didn't work.

previous nvidia cards, added 'nvidia-settings -load' startup manager load settings hidden...is there equivalent ati/amd command or solution?

or hack....how create script start , cancel amdcccle @ reboot - preferably hidden window esthetic reasons.

annoying problem, not end of world. it's challenge - doesn't professional in otherwise excellent distribution

found solution through trial , error. created command in startup applications custom title , command 'xgamma -gamma .660'. works fine @ startup.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
