Thread: Poor network performance with iperf
hi, running ubuntu 10.04 on asus at3iont-i deluxe (atom 330) motherboard in home network. created windows 7 share movies in order stream ubuntu machine (running mythtv).
when streaming isos or other high bitrate files notice buffering. network 100baset. router shows 100mbps full duplex both machines (windows 7 server , ubuntu client).
iperf ubuntu shows following:
these figures lower expect , show more variation (highest figure more twice lowest figure).code:------------------------------------------------------------ client connecting 192.168.1.3, tcp port 5001 tcp window size: 16.0 kbyte (default) ------------------------------------------------------------ [ 3] local 192.168.1.14 port 44326 connected 192.168.1.3 port 5001 [ id] interval transfer bandwidth [ 3] 0.0-10.0 sec 5.02 mbytes 4.21 mbits/sec [ 3] 10.0-20.0 sec 6.24 mbytes 5.24 mbits/sec [ 3] 20.0-30.0 sec 6.92 mbytes 5.81 mbits/sec [ 3] 30.0-40.0 sec 12.7 mbytes 10.7 mbits/sec [ 3] 40.0-50.0 sec 10.3 mbytes 8.66 mbits/sec
thought cifs issue (lots of threads on that), iperf not doing either can see.
suggestions? upgrade gigabit router, both machines gigabit capable, shouldn't need , worried won't make difference if atom machine i/o or cpu bound somehow or it's ubuntu config/tuning issue.
appreciated!
alfie.
are streaming video? if so, better performance faster cpu , nvidia video card vdpau installed. oh, motherboard has nvidia graphics; did install vdpau? (also mplayer2 , smplayer. in smplayer, go options> preferences> video> output driver, select vdpau.)
try lightweight version of ubuntu such lubuntu or xubuntu.
