i've had ubuntu 11.10 3.0.0.14 kernel working sound off, using 3.0.0.13 started having problems. so, decided upgrade kernel 3.1. upgrade went (no error messages) after reboot there violet screen.

turn computer on , have grub working, choose 3.1 version , have violet screen or there logo dots, turn red, logo dissapears , violet screen. ctrl+alt+f[sth] doesn't work, same power button. tried choosing older kernel version, black screen things turning on, ok, , stops (no log in screen) can press power button , works, , turns computer off.
made livecd on pendrive gives "boot error". wnet recovery mode , tried startx(gives blackk screen locked mouse), initx (white terminal window in corner in can't write anything). don't wrote gave xorg problems. got i915 symbol problem ( think i've seen before working system have intel i5 , i've read gives when there no other graphics card on). found lot of similar problems of them either update, or nvidia problems - have radeon card hd 5650

tried
code:
apt-get install --reinstall linux-image-generic
