Thread: error: no video mode activated

hi folks,

installed ubuntu 11.10 on lenovo t410. works out of box, no configuration required whatever. installed on encrypted partition via alternate x64 image usb stick. when boot, following text line displays on otherwise empty screen:

error: no video mode activated

assume grub? machine displays few seconds boots normally, must admit purely cosmetic issue. starting machine in front of clients (no suspend or hibernate on encrypted partition thankyou!) i'd rather rid of it. i've found similar issues on other posts/forums no solutions.

ideas?

try adding nomodeset, try temporarily if works can permanently: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1613132

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
