Thread: grub blowup

i having issues multi boot compuer. have grub installed on mbr of drive ubuntu. have windows xp on drive. windows hanging while booting, checking see if there issue motherboard. unplugged of drives except windows drive, forgetting grub2 on 1 of drives unplugged. got device not found error. plugged drive ubuntu in, "error: symbol not found: 'grub_putchar'.

have tried drive in every sata port, including in new sata pci card know works. @ grub rescue prompt. in world do going again?

how many drives have?

might have been booting not drive thought, one. , if 1 unplugged, won't work.

can either continue trial , error, or connect disks , run boot info script link in signature. instructions there. post results , add booting sequence of disks, or @ least think booting sequence.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
